Gretchen Targee has been around art and artists all her life. Born in Illinois, she grew up surrounded by big sky and cornfields.

Her art is owned privately as well as by Buddhist and Yoga Centers in the US and around the world. The work is in Sweden, Mexico, New Zealand, Germany, Canada, Poland, many US states, and the Rochester Zen Center. Her work is also included in the private collections of the late Philip Kapleau Roshi and Alan Ginsberg. It is displayed in many offices in Rochester, NY including Ancient Universal Medicine, Yoga Oasis, Open Sky Yoga, and can be found at Artisan Works on Blossom Road in Rochester, NY.

Gretchen’s work reflects her spiritual practice and has been said to “enhance the healing resonance of any space it occupies.” Her paintings invite the viewer to venture toward a different perspective. They are “whimsical, peaceful, and prompt curiosity”.

“We finally got to see "Windows" the other day - and we loved it, Gretchen. Beautiful work indeed. Beautifully executed, with a kind of mystery - the work showed more & more depth the longer I looked. One could see how the artist and the process interacted to create startling and evocative details, some of enthralling subtlety. Thank you so much.”
